Flower Shadow Play Eye Shadow Quad in Smoke & Mirrors: Review, Swatches
Some products are really easy to review because they're either really fantastic or extremely disappointing. Unfortunately the Flower Shadow Play Quad in Smoke & Mirrors falls into the latter group. This was the worst performing product of all the Flower products I purchased (haul here) and one of the worst eye shadows I've tried to date. This doesn't compare to higher end eyeshadows let alone even drugstore eyeshadows.
It claims to be blendable, smooth, and brightening due to the Ginko Biloba extract that it contains. It is blendable and smooth...so much so that the pigment blends right off your lids! The more you blend, the less you'll see. The colors are sheer and don't adhere to the lids for very long. Without primer they start fading at around 4 hours and crease around 5 (hardly any eyeshadow was left in my inner corner by this time). The texture is soft but powdery and can look a little chalky at times. Don't bother getting this; save your $10 and pick up 3 Wet'n'Wild trios instead.
To demonstrate to you how poorly these eyeshadows adhere to the skin, this is just one swipe through the colors with an eyeshadow brush. The last bronze shade is a Wet'n'Wild shadow. Note the difference between the qualities.
This next picture is after several swipes. Imagine blending the Flower Beauty eye shadows on the eyelids.

Simply put: the more effort you put into looking good, the less it actually shows.

Haha oh my gosh those last photos killed me!! I just don't understand... why? How? How could such horrible eyeshadows really exist???

What a shame! The colors look gorgeous in the pan. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of the line! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's very... pitiful.
ReplyDeleteWow and imagine paying $10 for that quality..
ReplyDeleteEmilynoel83 just posted a video reviewing this line and she got a quad in a different color and said the textures comparable to Wet n wild!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update! Maybe the consistency is different between different quads but I did say "Pros: Soft, silky texture" so I have no problem with the texture. My problem was with the lasting power and pigmentation. When she applied the dark brown eyeshadow on her lid, I think if she used a similar WnW dark brown eyeshadow, it would have created a lot darker of a smokey eye. I'm not saying she's wrong but it's one thing to state something and it's another to actually compare it to a WnW eyeshadows in the video.
DeleteDid you use a primer when swatching these?
ReplyDeleteNope. I don't use primer in any of my swatches.
DeleteI was actually really excited when I saw this brand had eye quads, but definitely not anymore. This does make me appreciate the quality of wet n wild color icon shadows even more though!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you completely!
