Flower Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color in Set Me Freesia: Review, Swatches, Comparisons

I was really excited to try out the new Flower beauty line that I didn't wait for any reviews. If you're as impatient as I am and haven't ordered yet, then consider yourself lucky that you didn't buy this lipstick! When you consider how drugstore lipstick formulas have rapidly improved over the years, you'd be astonished by the existence of this lipstick line.

Much like the Revlon Ultimate Suede lipsticks, the Flower Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Colors promise long wear with smooth vibrant color but at what cost? With a swipe of Set Me Freesia, my lips looked perched and dehydrated. My lip lines were accentuated and my lips looked flaky. There's a lack of emollient in this formula so it tends to tug on the lips during application. It's not nearly as pigmented as the Kiss Stick High Shine lipsticks (in black tubes) so it requires more layers than it claims. Preparation for this lipstick is needed but even then, it dries out the lips during wear and has an unpleasant velvet/matte finish. It lasts for 3-4 hours but at the end of the turmoil, your only wish is to apply a tub of lip balm. This formula was a complete disappointment because few drugstore lipsticks are worse than this one.
Price: $6.98 at walmart.com and select Walmart locations
Pigmentation: Medium; not as pigmented as the Flower High-Shine lipsticks
                                    Texture: dry; tugs on lips
                                    Pros: Medium pigmentation; cute packaging
Cons: Drying; makes lips look dehydrated; accentuates any flaws
Misc: Floral scent; label contains name so once removed, difficult to know shade name
                                    Overall: C-

Ingredients: Caprylic/capric trigylceride, triethylhexanoin, microcrystalline wax, C12-13 alkyl lactate, neopentyl glycol dicaprylate/dicaprate, ethylene/propylene copolymer, glyceryl dilaurate, dicalcium phosphate, ceresin, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax, fragrance, tocopheryl acetate, zea mays (corn) oil, propylparaben, silica, ethyl vanillin, vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, ascorbyl palmitate, tocopherol, tilia cordata flower extract, eucalyptus globulus leaf extract, bht.

To demonstrate how dry the formula makes my lips look, here is a comparison to the WetnWild MegaLast lipstick in 902C which is a semi-matte formula.

COMPARISONS
All the shades are more pigmented than Flower Set Me Freesia (all 1 swipe each). Wet'n'Wild MegaLast lipstick in 902C is more beige, less orange. Burberry Lip Velvet in Peony Rose is pinker. MAC Viva Glam II and Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick #14 is more beige.

  2. Ouch. Sorry to hear about this dud.. Sigh drews press release really hyped up the brand with claims of using high end ingredients or formulas or whatever it was, backing up their comments with outrageous numbers (something like how only their facilities had the power to mill powder that finely?400 something?i don't remember)...

On another note oh my god your blog is FLAWLESS. I love how you swatch everything at? 1,2, and 3 swipes, how

    1. I completely agree. It was such a let down because it made me discredit whatever she says and that it's mainly a publicity stunt.

    1. Thank you so much! You're WAY too sweet!! Temptalia posts a lot more frequently and has access to much more makeup. It's hard work to do all these things you mentioned but I'm happy to!
